Canon Showcase Canon S90/S95 images - Show yours

Like the second one Dan. Very inventive - is that you on the stairs? Don't forget to stop in at welcomes and introductions.

I've only just had a chance to catch up on this thread and feel as though I've missed the chance to respond directly to everyone's pictures.

I like these general threads because they offer such a broad array of subjects and points of view. I've gone from "Oooing" to "Ahing" to laughing and "hmmming". Please keep up the good work with your Canons!

Andy - good interesting captures - well done

the S95 does produce really good results - I have one - (although I do not really "warm" at all to it - don't know why - it just has no "soul" - as a piece of equipment)

Thanks for the kind words.

It's funny but I don't 'warm' to mine either. I was going to sell it and get something else but I'm a bit short at the moment so I'll have to wait a few weeks. I love the images it produces but have no 'connection' with it at all mind you it's very handy being so small. But what to replace it with that has a bit of soul? Also something that's not too big either. I have been looking at the new Olympus E-PL2. Looks really nice in black and looks quite retro, like a proper camera!! I have been looking at the Sony NEX5 also but that just looks wrong somehow. Shame as I love the idea of a APS-C sensor in a compact camera. The Fujifilm X100 will be out soonish but that's £1099 so you may as well get a Leica X1 if you're going to spend that sort of money!

Too many choices! :D

Andy

from what i have seen the X1 would seem to have soul and the Sigma also gives that feeling - but it is also about use, presence and feel

I have a G1 and an EP-1 - The EP-1 has 'soul" for me with, ironically, the PL 20mm f1.7, and especially at night with no flash shots - the G1, although I use it a lot does not have the same feeling

I would say 90% of the film cameras that I have had/have - have soul - but maybe I'm being too romantic

I do not want to start a Leica debate - but I have a few (film) bodies and they all have soul - no question

I would say that the M8 has "soul" - lots of it

The Nikon F's have mega "soul" - maybe the Nikkormat followed the F but once they got to the FM things started to faulter

My Canon A1 has "soul" but I never got on with any Canon after that

All the Olympus "compacts" had soul the Trip 35 thru to the SP

when you pick a camera up - maybe you can tell - I am being stupid

just pick a Trip 35 up and compare it with a S95

I could go on and on - older lens versus all this new plastic stuff

That is what these camera makers of today need to include in their package - a touch of "soul"

Andy, I like your style of shooting and the courage it takes.
I wanted to take a shot of some homeless people sleeping last week, but when I went to frame the shot, I just couldn't do it - felt rude, probably because I was thinking I wouldn't be happy if someone did that to me..

Thanks Bill

I really do hear you! The Leica X1 is a dream of a camera but at £1350 it's well out my budget unless I sell all my photographic equipment which I'm not prepared to do. I really want a camera that I can look at and have that nice warm fuzzy feeling inside that says that I love this camera! The more I look at the new E-PL2 the more I like it. I didn't like the look of the E-PL1 much but the 2 is very different and looks like it has used designs from the past which I guess is what the PEN range is all about. It looks especially good in Black! It's not out for a few more weeks yet so plenty of time to save a few pennies and think hard. It's handy that my birthday is next week!:2thumbs:

In that situation if it happens again just ask and offer a few quid, I'm sure they won't mind.

I was in a market in France once and I took a pic of a huge woman sitting at her table, she noticed what I was doing and she made a swing at me. Fortunately she was too big to get up quickly so I got out the way. I did feel terrible and I deleted the shot. The good thing about the s95 is the fact it's so small. No one really notices it.

Andy I wonder if this is one of the reason's that camera phones are becoming more popular for taking both indoor and outdoor what I call 'off the cuff' shots, people don't realise that there photo's are actually being taken?
There are a lot of members of Blipfoto.com who do there daily blip with them; some photo's are quite good some not so good as I would expect from a mobile.

After reading this wonderful thread, within the past few months I have gone small myself. I too (like BB) fell, and I say that in a good way... to the 4/3 groupies over at Mu (a great site I may add). Ive not used my ep1 in a while and actually bought the nex 3 and changed to the lx5, because I wanted something smaller.....

Well I just returned the lx5 (sorry SS, and other lovers of this great cam), and picked up the canon s90 at a very great price. Now I want the s95 and im trying to justify the upgrade. The wheel on the back does not bother me and I have no use for video....(BTW I hope Im in the right thread)....anyways just wanted to throw that out.

great shots all,

Azpete

There is no difference between the s90 and s95 regarding image quality so at the end of the day it's probably not worth upgrading until the price falls to a reasonable amount. The s90 is an absolute bargain at the moment.

Penny: I have never seen a decent image taken with a phone!! one day i will see one i guess but you can't beat a small compact for street photography.

Quick one from s95...

And congrats to you Pete - go with that which you enjoy!! Life is too short not to - funds allowing, that is.

Well said BB. Now if you don't mind repeating yourself, then I'll just pass you on my better half's email address :tomato2:
