Which operating system(s) run on your electronic devices ?

Oh this seems like a topic that could break out into computer wars at a seconds notice. I have one of those computer thingies that sits on my desk, I turn it on add pictures too it then tweak them. I am not fully sure what is under the hood or what impact it has on my photographs.

I had an iPad wifi, but sold it. It's FANTASTIC for e-mail and web surfing and games. It's not as good for productivity, but if you travel A LOT it might be better.

You can't really do much photo editing on it. It was because of this that I kept using my laptop until I decided I didn't want to deal with both. If they ever release a tablet PC where you can edit pics (sufficient processor and memory, calibrate-able screen, and sufficient resolution screen), then the form factor and user interface is great. But I don't travel enough to warrant the iPad and I was too distracted by it's entertainment qualities, so I sold it. YMMV.

I disagree that you can't really do much photo editing on it, but I can definitely say that I prefer to use a more traditional computer for the process. The MacWorld cover photograph for an iPhone 4 was a self-portrait, edited on an iPhone 4. Here's a blog entry about the process.

Ultimately, the right computer for you is the one you're most comfortable with, regardless of OS. I'm a big Unix geek, so I like that being under the hood of MacOS. My husband's a big Linux geek.

Oh, you are right about that. For me, I manage my photos in LR, and I don't want to divide up my photos between two editing platforms.

Also, the iPad's screen is not color calibrated (as far as I know, and it can't be adjust after the factory, again AFAIK). Finally, the storage is too limited. I had a 32GB iPad, and had already filled up about 18GB with music, apps, video and podcasts. I could easily fill the rest with one day's shoot! So, I still think the storage is limited. But, you can load photos on it, and there are photo editing apps, which is true.

I have a 16G WiFi+3G version, so imagine how I feel! :)

I don't usually shoot in RAW, though, so the 16G capacity is less limiting for me.

Mac OS X on my laptop (MacBook 13"), Windows 7 on my quad-core desktop PC (used mainly for video editing and, occasionally, games), Ubuntu + XBMC on my HTPC (connected to my HDTV and used to watch movies/play music).

For many years I was a videographer / editor on the mac pro using Final cut.....and since I no longer work there ( aabout 2 years now) , Im on a humble pc with windows 7.
I do have a good droid big screen phone....that I check on SC, blogs and photo sites and such during the day when Im out and about.
