Cats The Requisite Cat (Kitty) Photo thread

Oh, Peter, I am very sorry for Kris - and for you and yours. olli's right about your having so many wonderful photographs of Kris. I'm sure there are many that we haven't seen. I can say without a doubt that I've enjoyed every picture of Kris that you've posted. I'm sure he was grateful for all your love and help over the years, as you were for his.

A night without a cat was really weird. For the last thirty years there has been at least one cat in our house (and up to three at a time) so we took an offer from the RSPCA to adopt a cat for free if we bought a cat bed off them over the internet.

We chose Haruki, a 10 month old, desexed male. The name comes from two Japanese words haru and ki for spring/springtime and wood; or shining brightly.

Anyway, Haruki has been though every room and every cupboard, on the kitchen benches, in every lap and chewed a couple of remote controls (he has his own now), eaten several pieces of wool and other mischievous things a 10 month old 'kitten' can get up to. He has settled in well. Haruki has his own chair, his own scratching post (suggested by the RSPCA and we have figured out why now), his own bed (formerly ignored by Kris) and another in the mail from the RSPCA. He seems to be settling in well.

Here are some photos...

Oh Peter, Haruki is very handsome!! I'm very happy for you all and impressed by how quickly he's settled in. I love his name, too. Great pictures - all show his different sides - and as much as I am smitten by his good looks in your first, it's that second one that is my bright shining favorite.

Congratulations!:bravo-009:

LX5 Still Life with Cats

These are two of our three cats. I have several moment to moment photos of these two which I posted recently on my Flickr thread. All three of our cats found us - either by appearing in our fields when we lived in the wild, wonderful hills of West Virginia, or being born in our woodpile here in New York, or just appearing at our back door. They now out number our dog population.

Hey, what can I say...scroll back and you'll see some more awake cats.

I thought for sure I had posted our third, really 2nd in line of adoption - as in being adopted by a cat. Meet Eme, born in our woodpile...

And here is our "Good Old Boy" AKA Kiddie from West By Gawd Virginia, where we spent a year living in real mountain state country. He has a gun rack and drinks Pabst Blue Ribbon, regularly, when he's not taking down squirrels. He weighs the least of all our our cats, but is a serious gunslinger.;)

I have a set on Flickr devoted to catographs.:D

James, I think this is a beauty. It has a feel for me of an image from a child's storybook...and one that I would love to read.

Funny you should say that. One of the reasons why I step out so late at night with my camera is to see what my two cats get up in the middle of the night. My black teenage kitten, Atom, he's made very good friends with the neighbour's cat and we usually bump into that cat during our late night walks. Then Atom and his equally young friend will run all over the place chasing each other and play-wrestling, all under the night sky and the moon light. It's really quite nice to be in the middle of it when everything is quiet and dark.

That's very cool, James. I would love to have night vision goggles, or better yet a tiny movie camera to attach to our West Virginia cat when he goes out... In the summer or spring or fall, he will be gone all night long.

I actually looked into one of those kitty cameras! But the f/stop is horrible on that camera. Would be hopeless at night.
