Sony Taking good indoor shots under low lights?

Need experts advice on taking good indoor shots under low and orange lights. Photos taken are mostly too warm or too dull when i set the white balance. I'm not making use of the flash. Any recommendation on what settings to use? :confused:

Try shooting RAW and adjust the WB during post process.

Do you have any sample photos that you can share so that we can take a look at the problem?

First up welcome gtlogy to the forum. There are three factors that affect the amount of light getting into the camera so when the available light is low you can try:
(a) use a lens with a lower f number/aperture. eg the Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 is the 'fastest' native lens;
(b) use a longer/slower shutter speed but unfortunately this can cause blurring due to camera shake; and
(c) raise the ISO or sensitivity of the sensor although this will make the photo 'noisier'.

The final choice will always be a trade-off between these 3 factors. As Armando said sharing some pics with us and giving the exposure settings you (or the camera in auto mode) chose will allow us to give more specific feedback.

Finally a tripod will allow you to user slower shutter speeds with minimal camera shake.

I often 'push' the image by under exposing a stop or two and then lifting it in post processing.
Also take several shots of the same scene so you can choose the sharpest one.
If you like black and white photography it makes it all a lot easier because then you can get away with a much higher ISO

For the white balance in difficult situations, I set a custom white balance.

I calibrate using a white balance lens cap purchased off eBay for less than $5.

Just search for "##mm white balance lens cap" and quite a few choices should pop up

Just in case, put in the size you need instead of ##. Reminds me of my name being "Fill in the Blank" :)
