The F1.5 Sonnar is amazing, 7 elements in 3 groups. This uncoated lens has near perfect glass with a nice bloom on it. The glass on the F1.5 lens is more durable than that of the F2. It is common to find the F1.5 lens with glass that cleans up nicely. The F2 lens- glass is softer, much like the Leica Summar.

Converted to Leica mount using a Jupiter-3 focus mount assembled from parts.

The color rendition from this lens is very, very nice.

    Wide-open.

The bloom (glass tarnish) acts like a lens coating.

    On the Monochrom:

    Another of Brian's Zeiss adaptations

The photos were made with uncoated CZ Jena 5cm Sonnar (1938) on M9 – but its 'portrait' shows it in Zeiss neo-retro mode, on a ZM. IMO not only the sharpness but the color are outstanding!

Thanks again for sharing images from your collection of vintage/converted lenses. There is something very fitting about an old piece of glass shooting the "all glass" cockpit of the F-35. The photo of your daughter in front of the shuttle real gives a sense of how large the craft is, and I love the front end photo of the Thud. I really need to get out to see the Smithsonian's expanded collection.

Thankyou! The Udvar Hazy is now restoring aircraft as well, taken over from Silver Hill. They have an F100 Super-Sabre in now.

I love my 5cm/1.5 Zeiss from the 30's too. Colors are very special with Reala 100. I need to check it out in more detail with the M9.

The uncoated Sonnar is one of my favorites on the M9- and I know yours will be good. That was one of my earlier conversions, has perfect glass.
