    These hit on the reason as to why I switched back to using manual-focus rangefinder cameras after we had my daughter. My opinion- the eyes make the photograph.

    This is an example of "Focus and recompose" the shot:


    Camera focus was on the leaf at the top of the image, manual-focus camera. You will need to use the focus-lock feature of the camera. After focusing, the picture was "framed" in the viewfinder. A point and shoot camera would have no idea what "to do" if the scene had been framed first.

    Sometimes- you can put the focus right on the eyes, move just slightly to frame. Easy with a manual focus camera used here, still need to use the focus lock on most auto-focus cameras.


    Nikkor 85/2, wide-open. Very narrow depth of field- so focus has to be spot on.
