On the web I've noted these 75-100.00 dollor contrast slip-on lenses. I wonder if a less expensive knock-off is out there. Maybe from Hong Kong of some other far-eastern exporter.

Are you talking about the variable contrast filters? These used a Polarizer type contraption, at least the one I had. There are inexpensive ones out there. I prefer the standard graded color filters for contrast, use a Medium Yellow, Deep Yellow, Orange, and Red.

No Brian, I'm referring to the small (Maybe 3/8") colored slip-on contrast-aiding lens that fit the Leica iiif type cameras. Another site suggested obtaining a small piece of colored gelatin lighting stuff and cutting it to fit. Don't know if it is a necessary accessory to own, but a pricey one in any event @ 75-100 dollars. AHhhh, the burden of having Champagne tastes and a beer budget.

Okay- now I know what this is. You are paying collector prices for a small, easily lost filter. I've never needed one, bet they would be easy to make.
